Francois and his assistant tore out areas of bathroom damaged by mold and water and mediated the area. Lent dehumidifier and other equipment and tested a couple of days later to ensure that moisture was down to a normal level. Francois was brought in by a mold assessor in order to mediate the damage. He was very easy to work with and kept us informed along the process. Helped educate us for things to look for in the future. His expertise and credentials are excellent. If there were a higher rating than "excellent" for this professional, I'd use that rating! (Posted by: Margaret M, Austin, TX)

Mr. Newkirk was extremely thorough and very knowledgeable. He made sure he answered all my questions and gave me so many helpful tips for better house maintenance all around the property. Most of all, we got to the root of any issues to address them before they became bigger problems. He recommended the best products and services, even outside of his company, for the job. I also appreciated that he provided step by step instructions for many issues that I could address myself, saving time and money. Mr. Newkirk also encouraged me to ask him any future questions or concerns via email if I needed more help executing these solutions. He was very courteous and respectful, and I felt very comfortable having him in my home. So before you take just any referral from another company or a google search online, check out these first hand experiences on Angie's LIst...I'm so glad I did!   (Posted by: S’zanne R, Austin, TX)

MR. NEWKIRK was like having a University professor come to your home and not just tell you what needs to be repaired but teach you how to fix  it yourself and save you money ! He spent nearly 3 hours and really was interested in my problem. If the normal homeowner who thought they had  a house in perfect condition would have Mr. Newkirk inspect their home he could find many trouble areas. That was very important to me because he looked at my whole house not just my bathrooms, and by doing so saved me thousands of dollars in the long run . I WOULD HAVE NOT KNOWN ABOUT MANY PROBLEMS THAT WERE GOING TO COST ME SO MUCH MONEY DOWN THE ROAD. Now get this, I asked how much, he said he would show me how to do it.  He said he did not feel good about charging a customer for something he could teach how to do for FREE.  He's just a really nice guy who loves what he does.  I am very glad I used him.  Highly recommend him and I am hard to please!  But remember when he says
"bring a note pad," he means it !  (Posted by: John R, Austin, TX)

We just bought a house and noticed a strange odor in one of the bathrooms.  We suspect that it is mold.  We called a couple places for a quote for inspection and Francois has the most reasonable price.  What's more important is that he sounded honest on the phone about what he will do, so we decided to hire him.  He was able to work us into his schedule on a Saturday and did a THOROUGH inspection on the house.  He not only looked at that bathroom, but the whole house.  He not only inspected the possible mold situation, but also many other things like insulation, AC unit etc.   I was more than suspicious when I decided to hire a mold inspector mainly for two reasons: 1. I am not sure how much information we will be getting out of this since the inspection is going to be visual and everything the inspector will look at we have looked at by ourselves.  2. I am afraid that he will exaggerate the problem and try to convince us to hire him or someone he knows to do an expensive but unnecessary job.  After Francois inspected our house, both concerns were proved to be wrong.  Firstly, he knows his stuff.  He knows where to look and what to look for.  He also has the right equipments.  He has a camera that can go under the cabinet through a small hole from which we were assured that the ground and cabinet actually looked quite clean.  He also has an infrared camera which will detect if there is any active leaking going on because when there is water it will be colder and the camera is really heat sensitive.  The equipments combined with his experience definitely will reveal much more than we can see on the surface.  Secondly, he has an attitude of trying to help us rather than making us spend more money.  He showed us how to do a tape test on the surface for lab analysis which will cost $35/test.  Other inspectors offered to do the same test for more than $100 each.  For the bathroom odor which he actually found little evidence that mold is the cause, he offered inexpensive and practical solutions for.  Last but not least, as first time home owners, we learned A LOT from him.  When he walked through the house, he gave us advice whenever he saw things.  He told us what to do, where to buy etc.  I have no reservation of recommending him to anyone who is interested in learning more about their houses.  Especially if you are a first time home owner like us, you will not regret having spent the 2 hours with him.  (Posted by: YunYun N,  Austin, TX)

I called this company from Angie's List and Francois came to do a mold inspection. He was very thorough, went through out the house and did not rush; it turned out no mold to be found (thank goodness!). In the process he informed me of many other misc things that needed attention and even gave me numbers to handymen I could call that he recommended.  Francois did a great job, he is very knowledgeable and takes the time to explain things in ways that are easy to understand. His fee is very reasonable and well worth the peace of mind he provided.  I highly recommend his services.    (Posted by: Lovelyn C, Austin, TX)

I called this company based upon its high rating on Angie's List. The owner, Francois Newkirk, listened to my concerns about water damage and then advised me about applicable laws and his certificatication. Over the course of two hours, he meticulously inspected the interior and exterior of the house and garage and pointed out areas of concern in language that a layman can understand. He advised which remedial efforts I could do myself and others best left for a handyman. Although no mold remediation was necessary, I consider the peace of mind which the inspection produced, well worth the modest cost.   (Posted by: Brian C, Austin, TX)

Francois Newkirk inspected a residential home for mold.  The process took approximately one hour.  He inspected all rooms of the home and paid particular attention to bathroom, kitchen, and laundry areas.  I called the company and was in a rush due to a tenant concern.  Francois arrived within one hour.  His inspection was thorough and he explained in a professional manner to me and the tenant that there is no unusual mold to be found in the house.  He offered to refer another licensed professional who can take swabs for analysis.  Francois' demeanor was calm and professional.  I find his inspection fee to be reasonable and recommend his services highly. I had noticed some staining around some of my A/C vents, especially one that was closest to the Air Handler of my house. I was concerned that I may have a mold issue so I had taken off the grills and was surprised to find the Boxes where the flex duct is connected, were all blackened and looked like they had mold. After seeing this, I started the process of trying to find out what type of mold issue I had and what were my options on how I could take care of it. Francois was the 3rd individual I had come out to my house to inspect the issue and he gave me information on how I could have it taken care of. The first two companies I had contacted to check out the issue made it sound like I was in for a huge amount of money to be spent. The first company initially told me I cold have it treated with cleaning earlier in the year when I consulted them. I didn't have the money at the time so I waited until recently to get their opinion again. This time around, the company had brought in an HVAC subcontractor to give his opinion. I was told that all my ducts needed to be replaced, that the plenum above my A/C needed to be replaced and that I'd be looking at extensive work to be done on the whole HVAC system which was a shock to me given the initial recommendation given earlier in the year. The damage done they said was not treatable. Additionally, I didn't walk away fully understanding what the source of the problem was. The second company that came out was a little more realistic, but also recommended some extensive HVAC work including reinsulation of duct work, cleaning of the coils and installation of a UV light. They were more reasonable with the work that they recommended being done. When I contacted Francois, I knew immediately that I felt more comfortable and that I'd be more informed of the issues. Rather than immediately coming out, he offered to give any advice he could over email if I sent some pictures to him of the issues I saw. After doing so, Francois contacted me on the phone and gave some information on what he could tell. He did give some great information but I wanted to get some more in depth analysis by him coming on site. Once he arrived, he did a complete walk through of both inside and outside of my house. Not only did he give me valuable information and options on how to handle the mold I noticed (which was not as in depth as originally thought), but he also gave some great information on other things I could do to improve my house in other ways. His knowledge was extensive. What's more important, was that when dealing with the mold sources I was concerned about, I had an eye opener on what was going on. The black in the register boxes was not mold, but rather the actual color of the insulation used in the HVAC system (since it's an older home). A metal tube near my air handler that the first company didn't know the source of since it seemed to just 'be there', turned out to have a very important function with relation to gas build up and releasing it vertically (which Francois knew immediately and reaffirmed my doubts of the knowledge of the first company). I could not say enough positive things about my experience with him. I walked away feeling a lot more comfortable, better understand what I'm dealing with (primarily condensation and some very mild mold) and have options available to me which are far more reasonable and within my budget rather than what seemed like an attempt to make a quick buck by other companies. Highly recommended!   (Posted by: Christofer S, Cedar Park, TX)

We had a slight water collection issue in our front closet that resulted in some visible mold on the baseboards and a strong mold odor.  We called several different services to come and do an assessment based on Angie;s List ratings. Francois Newkirk (the owner) performed a thorough check of the suspected infected area as well as the rest of the house.  All and all, Francois spent over 3 hours at my house inspecting the issue, walking through 'trouble areas' then..ultimately...going through the different options of rectifying my issue. He spent another 30 min giving us step by step instructions on how to fix the issue ourselves.  We called several different services to come and do an assessment based on Angie List ratings.  Got Mold? Inc.(now Texas Dry Out & Restoration) had the earliest available appointment date and a comparible 'assessment fee'.  Francois Newkirk (the owner) called upon us personally and showed up on time.  During the inspection, not only did Francois answer all of my questions but he continually took advantage to educate me on potential 'danger areas' that I might need to address.  He even when as far as to inspect my air conditioner to ensure it was sealed properly and that the filter was up to snuff.  When he saw the kind of filter I was using he took it upon himself call a wholesaler to get a bulk price.  I should mention that he never offered to sell me a filter...he just simply pointed out to me a more inexpensive way to purchase my current filters. In the end, my wife and I decided to fix the issue ourselves using chemicals recommended by Francois and following his instructions.  With a handshake and a business card exchange he left me a very satisfied customer.  (Posted by: Nathaniel B, Austin, TX)

The company inspected a mold problem I had and advised me as to how to remedy it.  The owner also inspected my whole house for potential problems regarding moisture and pests and areas that needed to be addressed to improve the efficiency of my heating and air conditioning systems.  I contacted Got Mold, Inc. (now Texas Dry Out & Restoration) as a result of a search on Angie's List.  I had a potential mold problem and needed advice as to how to proceed with fixing it.  I called the company and talked with the owner, Francois Newkirk and set up an appointment for the next day.  Francois arrived on time, inspected my problem and advised me as to what may have caused it and what to do to remedy the situation.  He was very professional, knowledgeable and explained everything in detail.  He then proceeded to do a thorough inspection of my home and pointed out all the areas where moisture and pests could possibly enter and advised me on what to do to correct these issues.  He also located areas where I was losing efficiency in the heating and air conditioning systems.  he also pointed out areas in my roof that needed to be addressed and recommended a contractor to help me.  He was extremely helpful.  I would highly recommend this company for any mold or moisture problems and any general contracting work needed.  I would recommend contacting Francois for any work you may need around your house.     (Posted by:Robert B, Austin, TX)

Contacted Francois to inspect a home and provide a report after discovering there had been water damage previously (home is currently unoccupied). Francois responded very promptly (scheduled inspection within 24 hours of our call). Upon arriving at the property, Francois walked the entire exterior and interior, looking for anything that might indicate a previous leak. After an hour, he moved to the garage area, where the leak had been reported by the previous owners. He was able to confirm that this is the only area of concern and provided an estimate for remediation which was less than we had anticipated. I would defiitely recommend Francois to anyone that had concern about water damage, mold or anything along those lines.  (Posted by: Sharon H, Austin, TX)

We suspected some moisture in our hall closet and gave Got Mold? (now Texas Dry Out & Restoration) a call.  Francois spent about 20 minutes on the phone with me explaining what exactly he does to make sure that he was the right guy for the job.  He came out about 1.5 hours later.  He then spent about 2 hours with us doing a thorough inspection and then discussed our options.  He was extremely honest and even told us what options were the most monetarily efficient even if it meant that we would not be using his services (i.e., these are things you can do yourself).  Highly, highly recommend Francois.  Very professional, responsive, prompt, honest, and knowledgeable.  Can't go wrong with hiring him.   (Posted by: Ann S, Austin, TX)
